Pattern Review: Luana Apron Dress Shines In And Out of the Kitchen
When I first put my freshly-made Luana Apron Dress on, my kids blurted out that it looks really glamorous for cooking in the kitchen. It's the nicest apron they've ever seen! Thankfully, my husband thinks it's one of the best summer dresses (not aprons) that I've made. I was really excited about this pattern when I spotted it because I've been scouting for something exactly like this for about 2 years since I saved the picture below on Pinterest: Fabrics-Store.Com answered my

Double Pattern Review: #sewistaworldtour With The Poppy and Mindy Dress
In a bid to win a year's subscription of sewing patterns by Fibre Mood, I sewed up a Mindy Dress and a Poppy Dress. Posting a picture of the finished sewing project by on their website with the hashtag #sewistaworldtour makes one eligible to enter the voting contest. The criteria of the contest this year is to submit a photo of our makes with a backdrop of a staycation location. It sounded like a neat idea. And since it's the school holidays, I'm constantly scheming up projec

Pattern Review: The Gosling Shirt
It doesn't hurt at all to name a sewing pattern for a men's shirt "The Gosling" because a google search of this pattern also conveniently conjures up multiple images of Ryan Gosling on the computer screen. The eye candy is a nice distraction, I will admit. Or a very strategically-named persuasion to get "The Notebook" movie fans to buy a shirt pattern possibly endorsed by the actor. Although I am an unabashed admirer of Gosling, that's not the reason I bought the PDF digital

Kabuki Tee Pattern Review & Nui Shibori Tee Off
The Kabuki Tee by Paper Theory Patterns is a pattern that I've had my eye on for a while. I do not own many patterns for woven tops, and its design ticked off many boxes for me. The kimono sleeves are a big draw, but the most eye catching details of this top are the right angles that join sleeves to bodice at around the bust line. Such a simple detail but so effective. The angular lines created by the right angles give the boxy shirt heightened geometric interest, and provide

Pattern Review: The Drama Rama Anna Dress by BHL
There's quite a bit of drama that the Anna Dress provides with its ultra maxi length and thigh-high split in the front. Many reviewers have made this dress for more formal occasions with the length accommodated for high-heels to give the illusion of legs that go on forever. Then the bodice has four pleats in the front to shape the bust so that they are fully cupped like blossoming flowers. In fact, I've seen some impressive dresses made by sewers in luxurious fabrics and the

Rainbow Sashiko For Pride 2020
Happy Pride! Sending out big love to the LGBT+ community, and celebrating with you by sewing up some rainbow-coloured sashiko. This was partly spurred on by #rainbowsewing2020 on Instagram, which is a challenge to sew up some rainbow-themed clothing. Since I didn't own any garments in rainbow colours, I thought why not sew something up and experiment with a myriad of colours for sashiko? I will take on any excuse to broaden my sashiko explorations, and this adventure turned o

Radical Self-Care Sashiko (& Blanca Flight Suit #2)
My second Blanca Flight Suit took me about 2 weeks to complete. The actual sewing construction of the suit took up about 2 days, and the rest of the time was invested in sashiko-ing the garment. Before I jump into the sashiko part of the make (as you can tell from my last few posts that sashiko is pretty much my jam right now) here's a few words about the construction of the flight suit designed by Closet Case Patterns (@closetcase.patterns on Instagram). This time, I shorten

The Birth of this Blog and Kalle Shirt #3
When May 2020 ended and June began, I floated for a few days not knowing which direction this blog would continue in. #Memademay2020 had anchored me very strongly with posting almost daily most of the makes that I've sewn since I started 2 years ago. It was a way for me to share my handmade wardrobe that I've been building slowly but steadily. While going through each piece and writing about it, it was my way of thanking the various pattern designers that have provided me an

My Gorgeous Ginger Jeans (And My Sashiko Addiction Part 2)
Never did I think that I'd put a close-up picture of my butt on the internet. But I'd do anything to sing the praises of this Ginger Jeans pattern. My Ginger Jeans keep me in a snug embrace, safely securing all my looser bits within the flattering curves. They flatten my belly and lift up my tushy. They are my secret Spanx. I didn't think I'd ever wear cropped tops again after the birth of my second child, but take a look! Here I am daring to show a sliver of belly with my G

Done-By-Morning Morning Glory Top
Sarah Kirsten (@sarkirsten on Instagram) created the Morning Glory Top, a delicious exposed-back, cropped top that can be sewed up in a jiffy. The best thing is Sarah generously and graciously offers this pattern for free, which can be downloaded on her blog. My daughter woke up unexpectedly early today, and we decided to do something fun by sewing up something that we can wear together. The Morning Glory Top is the perfect project to do with my eight-year old. It is not only

Flying High In My Blanca Flight Suit
Fresh off my sewing machine is my Blanca Flight Suit #blancafightsuit designed by Closet Case Patterns (@closetcasepatterns on Instagram). This is the latest offering from Heather Lou and I bought the pattern the first day it was released for sale. I didn't think I needed yet another coveralls pattern, but the zipper front, the curved back pleats and the pocket belt loops were details too alluring to pass up on. This is my most elaborate make to date. First, due to embroideri

All's Well (That Ends Well) With The All State Shirt
This was my first go at a men's shirt about a year ago. I chose the pattern very carefully because I wanted top-notch drafting since the end product was going to be a gift. Most importantly, it had to appeal to my husband's surfer sensibilities and the All State Shirt by Merchant and Mills (@merchantandmills on Instagram) ticked all the boxes for him. Merchant and Mills is a company that I want to dangerously buy everything from because of its clever packaging and styling. Ho

Len Coveralls Covers All My Wardrobe Needs
That's a pretty bold statement to describe any garment piece, but the Len Coveralls does it for me. Designed by Trista Roland of Sugardale patterns (@sugardale on Instagram), these coveralls make me happy wearing them. At work or at play, in the shops or stuck at home during the lockdown, my Len coveralls fill me with simple joy when I put them on. I finished making them in the early days of the Covid-19 lockdown, and was miffed that I couldn't wear them outside. But since re

My Marvellous Mila Dungarees
As a lover of overalls, I'm always on the prowl for interesting patterns for dungarees. I'd already sewed up 2 versions of Burnside Bibs (read my review here) and a couple patterns from Make My Lemonade. They are all wide-leg patterns which gave me the excuse to look for one that is more slim-fitting. My quest ended with the Mila Dungarees (#miladungarees) by @tillyandthebuttons Tilly And The Buttons. This pattern is meant for stretch denim or any medium-weight woven fabric w

The Killer-Kool Kalle Shirt
The Kalle Shirt & Shirtdress (#kalleshirtdress) is another first-rate pattern from Closet Case Patterns (@closetcasepatterns on Instagram). Before I jump into the details of the pattern, I want to share with you what I've been up to in the last 24-48 hours. I was sucked into a vortex of Japanese Sashiko embroidery. I will write about this at a later time because it deserves its own post (or 2). I had already cut up the pieces for my Blanca Flight Suit (#blancaflightsuit). (Ye

Goodwill Sewing Giveaway #1 - Ogden Cami Hack
What is Goodwill Sewing #goodwillsewing? It's a project I've created to spread some goodwill through sewing. It's the 20th day of Me Made May of 2020, (#memademay2020) and it's the day that I am offering a giveaway of something I've handmade with love and joy. It's time to share all this me-made goodness. My very first offering is an Ogden Cami, which I've hacked into a sundress. For a review that I did on the original Ogden Cami, and to see pictures of its original form, you

Glory Be, Gloria!
We are at the height of a heat wave in Tel Aviv, and temperatures have skyrocketed to 40 degrees Celsius. Yikes! To deal with the sweltering heat, one either has to get naked, or get into a Gloria dress by Make My Lemonade, also known as Wear Lemonade. The latter method of cooling down may be the more stylish option if one is not living in a nudist colony. Wearing the Gloria does feel like you're not wearing much anyway with its daring bare back plunging down to the waistline

High-Drama Sleeves With The Adrienne Blouse
Here I am in my best gypsy pose in my dramatic Adrienne Blouse (#adrienneblouse on Instagram) designed by Friday Pattern Company (@fridaypatterncompany #fridaypatterncompany): The best thing about this pattern is that you can make a big bold statement with relative ease. It consists of only 4 pieces: 1 each for back and front bodice, 1 for the sleeves and the last for the neckband. Meant for knit fabrics, the simple but brilliant design means that with a small investment in t
