Dove Blouse by Megan Nielsen Patterns
About 2 weeks ago, I made myself a Dove Blouse by Megan Nielsen Patterns which came in a Minerva Kit. I was privileged to receive this kit in exchange for a post on the Minerva website to help launch the kit. Since then, I've been wanting to post the write up here as well, but renovations in our apartment started up immediately after. So we were knee-deep in dust, and everything that I was doing had to be put on hold. When we were done with all that, we found ourselves sudden

PATTERN REVIEW: McCall's M7969
It seems like everybody and their neighbour has made the McCall’s M7969 dress, and I was feeling pressure to make a version as well since I’m afraid to miss out. The popularity of the dress can be attributed to the bulbous raglan sleeves that are attached to a mock-wrap bodice that ends at the empire line. This dress has many views with different sleeve and skirt length options, but the bodice and skirt shapes remain the same throughout. The skirt is simply made out of 2 rect

Eva Mockneck Top (by Cool Stitches) & Lou Top by (Capsule Patterns)
Here’s a double review of 2 long-sleeved knit tops: the Eva Mockneck Top by Cool Stitches and the Lou Top by Capsule Patterns. Just before the warmer months arrive, I wanted to highlight these 2 long-sleeved knit tops that have served me stylishly well this winter. Both are designed by independent designers and both have alternative short-sleeve views that can extend their wearability into the summer months. Besides these similarities, the 2 tops are completely different with

PATTERN REVIEW: Sapporo Coat by Papercut Patterns
The Sapporo Coat designed by Papercut Patterns was completed just in time for the serious chill that set in in Tel Aviv this past week. There's always a time during the winter months here when the cold seems to penetrate the bones, and that time of year has arrived. We live in a postwar building which has zero insulation in the walls, so it can sometimes be much colder inside compared to outside temperatures when the weather gets cold and wet. I'm wearing the coat as I write

Plaid Pattern-Matching at Princess Seams on New Look 6914 Waistcoat
A plaid fabric is hard to resist for me, but using plaid for me-made garments also means that pattern-matching is unavoidable. It is relatively simple when matching seams that are cut on a straight line. For seams that curve, like princess seams, it is impossible for all the lines to match up. It's a matter of deciding on the best location for the seams to match on the garment; and releasing the need for all lines to match on the curved seam. For this New Look 6914 waistcoat

PATTERN REVIEW: Tatjana Trousers by Just Patterns + Pre-Treating Wool
A waistcoat-and-trousers combo has been marinating in my head for a while, and I finally managed to bring this sewing project into fruition when I worked on it in the last week of 2020, and into the first week of 2021. It's a new year so I thought I'd start off with a brand new look for myself, while trying out some new techniques. Happy New Year! Happy New Me! These are pieces I don't already own in my me-made wardrobe, and I think this combo is a keeper. As I said, there we

PATTERN REVIEW: Hampton Jean Jacket by Alina Sewing + Design Co.
Happy holiday season to one and all! I wanted to squeeze in another blog just before this strange year ends, and wish you all a happy new year. One more day and 2020 comes to a close. I hope that 2021 will bring us all an abundance of actual hugs from family and friends. I sincerely hope that sometime in the new year, the social distancing will end, and we can all gather and break bread with loved ones near and far. Most important, health and happiness to everyone. For a Chri

PATTERN REVIEW: Wide-Leg Pants by Peppermint Magazine & In The Folds
Here's another cracker pattern from Peppermint Magazine that is free - the Wide-Leg Pants. Created in collaboration with In The Folds, this pattern is well-drafted with clear instructions. There can never be too many wide-leg pants in my closet, so a free pattern is always a good way to add to the collection. Sizes come in A-J, catering to waist measurements of 64cm-116cm. I sewed up a size B for a 66cm waist, but since I used a stretch denim, I knew that there would be adjus

PATTERN REVIEW: Sloane Overalls by Victory Patterns
After sewing up these Sloane Overalls by Victory Patterns, I tried them on and didn't want to take them off. I guess you can say I am IN LOVE! It's been a while since I've made myself a set of overalls, and this fitted pair is stunning. I wasn't so sure about the fitted look for a pair of overalls, but now that I have them on, there is no doubt in my mind that I would wear them as much as I can. I would also sew up another pair in another colour as soon as I have the time to

PATTERN REVIEW: Solina Dress by Named Clothing
The Solina Dress designed by Named Clothing can be found in the book, Breaking The Pattern written by sister-duo Saara & Laura Huhta. The styling for this book is impeccable, and all the pictures make me want to sew up all of the delicious patterns. I decided to start with the Solina Dress because its prettiness is irresistible. The front waist pleats that are connected by front waist ties, and the wrist ties make this a stunning dress. Other details that I like are the soft,

Sofia Dress & Top Pattern Review + My First Attempt At Dyeing and Sewing Silk Fabric
It took me a long time to work up the courage to make the Sofia Dress & Top designed by Victory Patterns. I've had my eye on it ever since the pattern came out, and hesitated buying it even though I fell in love instantly with the design. Mainly because I wasn't sure how well my Heavy Duty Singer 4453 was going to handle the elastic thread in the bobbin. I looked at numerous YouTube videos and blogs on shirring for research. It didn't help that many described how their machin
